IEEE Kochi Sub-section in association with Internet Society Trivandrum Chapter, ICANN and IEEE Society on Social Implications of Technology is organizing a One Day Workshop on Internet Governance for the Internet Generation.

The Internet is today the “…horizontal fabric underneath everything…”, facilitating informational, educational, recreational and transactional services globally. Individuals, communities, companies, and governments are today dependent on the Internet for their daytoday work.

Internet Governance is the development and application of shared principles, norms, rules, decisionmaking procedures, and programs that shape the evolution and use of the Internet.

Internet Governance is not vested with any single organization. There is, in fact, a whole ecosystem of organizations that govern different parts of the Internet. These include ICANN, IETF, IAB, W3C, and the Internet Society. These organizations largely operate under the MultiStakeholder Model, which permits all legitimate stakeholders—such as Civil Society, Industry, Government, and the Academia—the opportunity to influence policy relating to the Internet.

The Internet Generation—a label applied to the young people of today—is the first generation to have been born
into these technologies. The youth of today have been active in participating in discussing different aspects of
Internet policy such as Net Neutrality, Privacy, Censorship,Security and Net Safety. Under the Multistakeholder model, the youth can—and should—influence Internet Policy.

This workshop introduces different aspects of Internet Governance, the Internet Ecosystem and how young people
can start voicing their concerns in policy development. Mr.Samiran Gupta of ICANN is the lead resource person for the workshop.
