27 Feb 2013 : Immunity to Electromagnetic interference has made photonics systems preferred choice in defence and security applications. Recent advances in Photonics area have brought in a paradigm shift in communication, sensing as well as displays in strategic areas. The talk covered basic fiber optic components, Erbium Doped Fiber Amplifiers, Fiber Bragg Grating sensors, Transmitter Receivers as well as intrusion proof fiber optic cables used in defence applications. The talk emphasized possible data intrusions and preventive methods in optical communication with application to defence and security. Various case studies on systems developed were presented. Some of the interesting and advanced areas covered were Supercontinuum sources, RF over fiber, under water communication, Head up displays as well as Fiber vest.
