IEEE Comsoc Kerala Chapter, in association with IEEE Kochi Subsection organized a talk on “ Wireless Sensor Networks for Green Buildings”, at Renewal Centre, Azad Road, Kaloor on 14t July 2012. The speaker Prof.Xavier Fernando is a Distinguished lecture of IEEE Communication Society for the year 2012. In his talk, Dr.Xavier shared his experience on working with Wireless sensor networks. He discussed various technologies and techniques including EnOcean, Powerline communication and various upcoming standards. He gave a comparison of various wireless communication technologies like WiFi, Zigbee , Bluetooth, RFiD etc. He discussed various green energy concepts that could be used for construction of energy efficient buildings, including room cooling using cold water from rivers etc. He gave overviews about few of his projects including a Wireless Heart beat measurement system that can communicate with treadmills, Net Positive Green Building etc.
